New research indicates future climate change could be just around the corner.
Scientists attending a climate conference in Holland say changes in the earth's climate could in fact happen almost over night by geological standards rather than the steady progression of change predicted previously. Scientific studies show evidence of climate changes in less than 10 years. These changes occurred when man-made factors such as smokestacks and exhaust pipe emissions passed a critical mass in the atmosphere throwing the eco-balance out of balance. Professor Tom Pedersen of the University of British Columbia says what many people don't understand it that we have been living in what he calls a "sheltered" period when climate conditions have actually been comparatively stable. That period may be about to end. Some results of rapid climate change could be the speeded up melt down of glaciers around the world. That includes the glaciers of North America. Other changes could be the sudden death of tropical forests, shifts in monsoon patterns and dramatic changes in ocean currents. Professor Pedersen says," We are heading into uncharted waters and it is difficult to predict what lies ahead." But the Professor warns we need to beware of the potential problems. |

On our recent trip to Alaska convinced us
that we are surrounded by clues to global warming. Global warming is happening in fragile eco-systems all over the world. It is just that in our daily routine, we do not notice the clues or they are called something other than global warming. For example, the coco plants that produce all the chocolate in the world are being attacked by three different fungi. It's never happened before. The result is that all of us will be paying higher prices for chocolate in the future. We believe that the plants are vulnerable because of global warming. We are looking for new clues to global warming. If you see an unusual news story or event that YOU may think is caused by global warming, please contact US. The information can be anecdotal or scientific. We will begin to catalogue all the information and post the interesting findings on this web page. |

The Metropolitan Water District in Los Angeles, California is saluting artists
who use water as a form of expression in their works. Metropolitan which is the biggest water wholesaler to cities in Southern California, is sponsoring a year long exhibit of photographs by Tom Bonner. These photographs are of exceptional art works, fountains, and gardens which tell a story of how water and art relate to life and living in Southern California. The exhibit is currently in East Los Angeles at the Galeria Otra Vez. It will be moving to San Diego, and finally to a gala presentation in Washington, D. C. Among these unique works of art is 13 acre site in Ontario, California called the Founder's Garden. It tells the importance of water in the development of Ontario, California. Another garden is in San Diego. It is called The Water Conservation Garden. It is free for all to see. It is a living classroom on the optimum use of water in gardens and landscaping. Everyone should see this. Also featured are paintings by Roxie Ray, which characterize people in motion in water. These works of art will be featured in a 30 min. program called Straight from the Tap which airs on cable TV stations in California. If you visit Southern California, you can see all of these works in person. |
